Teppanyaki Honey Ginger Brussel Sprouts
There is something about the winter months that make us crave comfort food, even if you live in the more tropical climates like those of us down in Miami. Hearty does not have to mean heavy though, so we decided to try out a fun little brussel sprout recipe that would provide a balance between comfort, health and flavor.Start off by steaming your trimmed brussel sprouts for 5 minutes, cooking until just fork tender. While they steam you can dice up your garlic and ginger. Once you have steamed the brussel sprouts, place them in a bowl and have all your ingredients at hand.We decided that a few fresh local grape tomatoes would add a nice touch of color and flavor to the dish, but feel free to omit them or add your own special twist to the dish. Proceed to preheat your Cook-N-Dine at level 5, then turn the temperature up to a 7 or 8 once the preheating is complete. If you are using a wok or sauté pan, this would be about a medium-high heat.Start with a few swirls of oil, which should heat up pretty quickly since the cooktop has been on for a few minutes at this point. Promptly proceed to toss in the diced ginger and garlic. We used 1 tbsp of garlic and 1.5 tbsp of ginger, but this can be adjusted to your personal taste.Time to add the brussel sprouts! It's a good thing you will be keeping busy stirring the ginger, garlic and brussel sprout mix for a minute or so, because the smell will be so tempting you will want to dive right in to eating before they are even ready.[wpvideo RJBc4Pih]After about a minute of stirring the mixture and resisting the temptation to start eating, you can add in the soy sauce and sherry. We used about a tbsp of each, but again you can adjust this to taste. Stir in both liquids until the brussel sprouts have all been gently coated. Then add a few swirls of honey, to balance out the ginger and bring a gentle sweet flavor to the dish.Continue to stir, allowing the brussel sprouts to start slightly caramelizing without burning. After about a minute you can turn the heat off and add in any additional ingredients you would like or serve as is. As I mentioned before, we decided to add local fresh grape tomatoes however you could squeeze a little lemon or lime juice on top or perhaps add in some walnuts, dried cranberries or maybe some cooked bacon.RECIPE FOR 3-4 SERVINGS
